Public Speaking

Freedom of speech is not only encouraged but practiced, performed and polished on Boys’ Latin’s Campus! For decades, our community has fostered the tradition of each senior writing and delivering  his Senior Speech to parents, teachers, faculty, staff, and the Headmaster. Boys’ Latin is proud of our Senior Speech tradition. We stand behind the practice of challenging each senior to think for himself, to professionally write, and to deliver a polished speech to an audience of well over 300 classmates, teachers, administrators and special guests. The speech process is a collaborative effort between the English teachers and Mrs. Molling, the speech coach. Students write the speech in the English classroom. On a scheduled date, each senior is assigned to an exclusive, one-on-one week of public speaking training where his delivery is examined and refined for public viewing.
Boys’ Latin also hosts a middle school speech program in which each eighth grade student stands before his classmates, teachers, staff, and Headmaster to present his speech. Each student works with Eighth Grade English teacher Mr. Freihofer and Speech Coach Mrs. Molling to perfect his written content and speech delivery.
The speech program is one of many formational and “coming of age” experiences of a Boys’ Latin Laker.
