The Boys’ Latin Annual Fund
What is the importance of the Annual Fund? At Boys’ Latin, only 92% of the cost of educating our young men is covered by tuition. Donations from alumni, parents, grandparents, employees, businesses, and other friends of the school help to bridge that gap. The Annual Fund allows us to hire exceptional teachers and keep classes small so they can make the most difference in the lives of their students. The Annual Fund also helps to maintain the academic and athletic facilities at BL and to cover other expenses of daily operation essential to the success of the school.
In recent years, annual giving at Boys’ Latin has exceeded $1,000,000—an outstanding accomplishment and one that demonstrates the dedication of alumni, parents, and friends to continue the mission of Boys’ Latin.
The Boys’ Latin Society
The Boys’ Latin Society is the School’s premier donor group and is comprised of those who believe so strongly in the mission of the School that they make an annual gift of $1,000 or more toward the School’s current operations. Members of the The Boys’ Latin Society take the lead to provide the needed resources so the School can remain true to its mission of educating young men in a supportive atmosphere that encourages individual achievement, mutual respect, and a strong sense of community.
The Jack H. Williams Society
Cumulative gifts of $25,000, or more, to the Annual Fund entitle one to membership in The Jack H. Williams Society. Jack Williams, a Boys’ Latin alumnus, Class of 1938, led the effort to find the property and build Boys’ Latin School on the grounds on which it is located today. A practicing attorney, Jack left his law firm in 1962 to become Boys’ Latin’s second Headmaster on Lake Avenue. Most people would agree that, had it not been for Jack Williams, The Boys’ Latin School of Maryland would not be here today. Donors who give consistently and generously to Boys’ Latin, as Jack Williams did, become members of this Society.
The Esse Quam Videri Society
Esse Quam Videri, “To Be, Rather Than To Seem,” the School motto, is the name given to the society established to recognize those who possess the vision to include Boys’ Latin School in their estate planning. As a member of the Esse Quam Videri Society, one helps to shape the values and traditions of future generations and ensures the continued excellence of the Boys’ Latin program. This kind of legacy gift is a leadership commitment for others to follow and assures the passing of knowledge and ideals from generation to generation. It is an investment in the future of young people and our world.
