Dear Alumni, Families, and Friends,
We are so excited to celebrate the 175th Anniversary of the Boys’ Latin School of Maryland. Our school is the oldest, independent, K – 12 school for boys, not just in Baltimore, not just in Maryland but throughout the mid-Atlantic. And we intend to celebrate our legacy with “Pride and Tradition” throughout the year.
Our founder, Princeton classics professor Evert Marsh Topping, believed that the best education occurred when students are actively engaged in the learning process. Princeton, however, felt that his ideas were too radical. Rather than continuing in a place that was inconsistent with his beliefs, Dr. Topping decided to open a classical academy in Baltimore. And the rest, as they say, is history.
We will be celebrating our school’s history through the rich, personal stories of those who have made our motto – Esse Quam Videri: To Be, Rather than To Seem – come to life. Mark your calendars now for our anniversary gala on April 6, 2019 and our 175th Anniversary Homecoming on Saturday, May 4, 2019.
I look forward to sharing in this year of celebration with you, as we commemorate this 175-year foundation and dream boldly for our future.
All the best,
Christopher J. Post
