The Boys' Latin Center for Military History

Distinctive among Maryland schools, the Center for Military History is an independent military history museum located in the heart of the Boys’ Latin campus. Its private, extensive collection of military memorabilia from the Revolutionary War through the War on Terror provides a rich resource for the School and the greater community.

SCHEDULE A VISIT!
Veterans groups, senior citizens and community groups are welcome to schedule a visit. Email militaryhistory@boyslatinmd.com to arrange your visit.

For school groups, we can create a custom, interdisciplinary, hands-on experience using selected artifacts geared toward a specific area of interest or course of study. To arrange a visit, please email admissions@boyslatinmd.com. We would love to show you around!

The Museum
Housed in a state-of-the-art museum, The Center for Military History is a museum, hands-on classroom space, and research center rolled into one. By touching actual artifacts, exploring unique primary research documents, and learning the personal stories behind the objects, history truly comes to life for students and visitors.
Boys’ Latin students in all divisions explore interactive exhibits of authentic uniforms, equipment, diaries and more through lectures and interactive classes in history, literature, physics, forensics, and visual art. The Center for Military History also offers unique Upper School electives in leadership and a seniors-only Museum Curator class.

“Students learn best when it’s personal, when they can see and feel it. I teach them about their brothers that sat in these classrooms and fields and what they did for their country.”

Butch Maisel

Founder and curator Butch Maisel has been teaching Military History at Boys’ Latin since 1991 and collecting artifacts since 1972. He has traced every BL alumnus who has served in the U.S. military with biographies and citations, another rich repository of Brothers for Life connecting BL generations.

The Center for Military History is in the news!

This past Veterans Day, for the first time in the museum’s three year history, we opened our doors to TV news cameras. Reporter's learned, what we already know, that this one-of-a-kind facility is more than a museum. Click here or on the photo on your left to read the news stories or watch the TV coverage from our very special Veterans Day.
