Music Brings Out The Best In Us

Throughout your years at Boys’ Latin you can tap into your musical creativity. Whether it’s through our extensive instrumental program, our vocal ensembles or though general musical exploration, you’ll have a chance to play and sing with the confidence and with courage. And at every level, you will have the opportunity to perform.

Study musical genres from around the world and across the centuries and play a variety of instruments in class, sing in our choirs or choose private lessons in one of 11 instruments. Woven into each musical adventure is a focus on reading music. We go a step further, though, and celebrate your growing self-confidence with improvisation and original compositions beginning in Kindergarten.

Lower School

From the day you start in kindergarten until the end of fifth grade,  you will explore musical genres from around the world, and you can try your hand at an array of instruments. Recorders, mini steel pan drums, ukuleles and drums are all part of your musical experience. And when you get to fourth grade, you will have the opportunity to join the lower school band and learn to play the instrument of your choice. Before long, you will learn to read music and to write your own compositions.

Middle School

In middle school, your focus will change with your grade. Sixth grade students focus on voice, seventh grade on piano and eighth grade on hand chimes. You can also join our middle school chorus or the jazz ensemble.

Upper School

Upper school will give you the opportunity to dive deeper into your chosen instrument or voice. You can participate in chorus, the jazz ensemble or our jazz workshop. These groups perform in annual concerts and alumni events and sometimes you can find then performing an impromptu jam session during lunch.
