BL varsity tennis brings home the MIAA B Conference Championship

The Boys’ Latin varsity tennis team won the MIAA B Conference Championship for the first time in School history, defeating the Park Bruins, 3-2 in the finals.

Freshman Eli Holder played the #3 singles position and easily won his match. Despite strong play, senior captain and tennis stand-out, Paul O’Connor fell short in the always competitive #1 singles spot.

Senior Captains Markus Engel and Finn Hopkins dominated their doubles match with their solid net play, finishing with an unbeaten record in the regular season and playoffs. The highly seasoned team worked together beautifully as a unity and set an example for the younger team members with their fire and confidence. The freshmen team of Evan Rosen and Charlie London battled valiantly but lost their match in three tight three sets.

The match was now tied 2-2, and it came down to the #2 singles contest. After losing in a close first set (5-7), James London ‘24 rallied, taking the second set 6-4. The deciding games of the third were played in front of a large crowd of spectators, with the Championship resting on Jame’s shoulders. James demonstrated tremendous grit, overcoming these pressure-packed moments, and prevailed 6-4 in the third. After the last point, teammates and other students stormed the court to celebrate.

Senior captains Paul O’Connor, Markus Engel and Finn Hopkins, were instrumental to this young team’s success all season, and they will be missed next year.  Coach Z is looking forward to a strong returning squad of underclassmen, including James London ‘24, Eli Holder ’25, Evan Rosen ‘25 and Charlie London ‘25, that he has no doubt will play a vital role in the team’s future success.
