Honoring Excellence: Boys’ Latin Recognizes This Year’s Williams Scholars

The Boys’ Latin community recently gathered to celebrate this year’s Williams Scholars, a distinguished academic honor established in 2006 and named for former Headmaster Jack Williams, who led the School from 1962 to 1978. The program reflects Mr. Williams’ steadfast belief in scholarship, character, and the transformative power of education—values that continue to shape our community today.

Williams Scholars represent the highest level of academic accomplishment at Boys’ Latin. To qualify, students must maintain a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.95, complete at least three Honors or AP courses each year, and remain in good standing with respect to the School’s core values and Honor Code. Inducted scholars also gain access to a summer scholarship supporting advanced academic enrichment and exploration.

During this year’s ceremony, we were inspired by remarks from senior Ian Barrera, who shared insights from his experience in the Johns Hopkins Summer Surgery Program, and from Upper School math teacher Mrs. Lisa Reid, who reflected on her own academic journey and her passion for teaching mathematics.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Ms. Marcia Flathery for her leadership and stewardship of this exceptional program. Congratulations to all of our new inductees—we are proud to celebrate their achievement.
