In Memory of Steve Dubin ’79

In Memory of Steve Dubin ’79

It is with profound sorrow that we share the passing of Steve Dubin ’79, a cherished alumnus, teacher, coach, and steadfast member of the Boys’ Latin family. For over four decades, Steve dedicated himself to inspiring students, mentoring colleagues, and strengthening the School community, leaving a legacy that will be felt for generations. Below is a letter from Headmaster Chris Post to the community.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Boys' Latin School of Maryland on Saturday, November 8th, at 10 AM.

Dear Boys’ Latin Alumni, Families and Friends,

It is with heartfelt sadness that I share the news that Steve Dubin ’79, our longtime colleague and beloved friend, has passed away following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Steve was 65 years old.

Steve graduated from Boys’ Latin in 1979 and from Johns Hopkins University in 1984. He was a highly decorated student-athlete and returned to our School to teach and coach more than 40 years ago. In fact, we celebrated his 40 years of service to Boys’ Latin just last spring during our Closing Convocation.

During his time at the School, Steve taught history, served as an advisor and coached football and lacrosse. He became the School’s director of alumni relations and later went on to serve as our director of facilities. Under his watchful eye, Steve oversaw the Buildings and Grounds Department. He was responsible for much of our work to ensure that our students could return to campus in person during the COVID-19 era. He also personally managed and led numerous renovation and construction projects — including the acquisition of the Western Campus; the renovation of Carter–Cowan Hall (the School’s dormitory); and the transformation of the Upper School, which included the addition of Gore Hall as well as renovations and an addition to the Gelston Athletic Center.

Steve is survived by his wife, Georgianna, and his sons, Peter and Marty ’26. Steve was on campus just a few weeks ago to celebrate Marty’s recognition as the winner of the second annual Mitch Casper ’16 Award, given to one who selflessly lifts up others.

In so many ways, that, too, was Steve’s greatest attribute. He was extraordinarily dedicated to our School and to everyone who is part of it. There was not a single thing Steve wouldn’t do for the Laker community. The family is finalizing arrangements to celebrate Steve’s extraordinary life. I will pass along those details once available.

In the meantime, please hold Steve and his family close in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Christopher J. Post
