Boldly BL: A Campaign for Boys' Latin

An Historic Achievement!

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our alumni, families, faculty, and friends, The Boldly BL Campaign closed on June 30th as the largest campaign in the School's history, raising over $23.1 million. We embarked on the Boldly BL Campaign in 2021, emboldened by the generous support of Bob Carter '64 and Joe Cowan H '21 for their support and leadership in the launch of the residential life program and our new dormitory, Carter-Cowan Hall.

The Boldly BL Campaign has led to the renovation of the Gelston Athletic Center and the upper school, the addition of the 12,000-square-foot Gore Hall, and over $5 million for our endowment. The Boldly BL Campaign is impacting the lives of countless boys and will for generations to come.

We would like to share a letter from our President of the Board, Richard Bagby ‘82, Campaign Chair Kyle Gore ‘80, and Headmaster Chris Post, expressing gratitude to our community for moving Boys' Latin boldly forward.

LETTER FROM BOYS' LATIN LEADERSHIP

JOIN BOLDLY BL

Our board of trustees has pledged $1,000,000 and will match every new and increased gift 2-for-1, ensuring that every contribution from every member of the Laker community can make a significant difference. Our goal is to raise $23 million as we conclude the Boldly BL Campaign at the end of June, and you can help.

Now is the time to make your gift and help us move boldly forward.

MAKE A GIFT TO BOLDLY BL

Kyle Gore '80, chair of the Boldly BL Campaign, alumnus, and vice president of the board of trustees, addressed the crowd at the Boldly BL dedication. He spoke passionately about the positive impact that faculty members had on him during his time on Lake Avenue, and the transformative power of a Boys' Latin education. He closed his remarks by saying, "...it is not just a great day to be a Laker. It's a great honor to be a Laker."

THE BOLDLY BL CAMPAIGN UPDATES AND PROGRESS

CAMPAIGN PRIORITIES

gelston athletic center

The Gelston Athletic Center will be reimagined to provide all students with an even more robust athletic experience. The fitness center will be expanded and renovated and filled with the most up-to-date exercise and workout equipment. Locker rooms, the athletic conference room and the training room will also be completely renovated, all designed to improve athletes' training and well-being. The lobby will be refreshed to create a welcoming gathering space for students, parents, alumni and friends.

BOYS' LATIN UPPER SCHOOL

Boys' Latin's upper school will undergo a complete renovation and significant expansion.  In the upper school, we will be renovating classrooms and learning spaces, including transforming the library into a modernized learning commons, to meet the ever-evolving educational needs of our boys.  We will also add a three-story addition between Williams and Hopkins Hall, providing additional learning spaces equipped with the latest technology, the most up-to-date science labs, collaboration spaces for students and faculty alike, and brand new vibrant art studio.

eNDOWMENT

The continued growth of Boys’ Latin School’s endowment is important for the financial well-being of the School and allows us to continue to provide boys and young men with life-changing educations. Each $1 million raised in additional endowment supports one full tuition. Each $1 million dollar raised supports more than half of the median salary and benefits of a faculty member. Each $1 million dollar raised supports the annual expenses of any of our myriad of academic or co-curricular programs. In doing so, we will continue to enrich the lives of our students and propel Boys’ Latin boldly forward.

A Bold Gift to Boldly BL

Dear Boys' Latin Alumni, Parents, Families and Friends,

I am thrilled to announce that W. Kyle Gore, Class of 1980, along with Paula, his wife, has made a $2.5 million leadership gift to the Boldly BL Campaign for Boys’ Latin. Kyle currently serves as treasurer of Boys’ Latin’s Board of Trustees and Campaign Chair for the Boldly BL Campaign.

On behalf of our entire School community, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Kyle and Paula for their generosity and unwavering commitment to Boys’ Latin. In recognition of this lead gift, the 12,000 square-foot, three-story addition, located between Williams and Hopkins Hall will be known as Gore Hall, housing additional modern classrooms, collaborative workspaces and a vibrant art studio.  These transformational changes will allow us to further enrich the academic and overall experience of our students.

Kyle reflected that “BL uniquely offers a community that champions the ideal that every boy matters, and that every graduate can and will make a profoundly positive difference in the lives of others and on the world around them in unique ways we cannot yet imagine. Giving back to Boys’ Latin is investing in the future.” He knows that the impact a Boys’ Latin education has on the lives of students hasn’t changed since his time on Lake Avenue.

In the fall of 1973, Kyle entered Boys’ Latin as a seventh grader and quickly began to make his mark.  As an upper schooler, Kyle was a member of the It’s Academic team, the Debate Society, The Inkwell, and also participated in tennis, basketball and baseball. He won the Evert Marsh Topping Debate Cup, The Board of Trustees Award for the highest GPA, awards in math and physical science, graduated as Class valedictorian and, in 2019, was named a Boys’ Latin Distinguished Alumni.

Kyle went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude with High Honors in Economics from Dartmouth College. Today, Kyle Gore is a Senior Managing Director, principal shareholder and co-founder of CGA Capital, LLC, a privately-owned Baltimore area real estate private equity and investment banking firm.  Kyle serves as President of the Board of Roland Park Country School.

Kyle and Paula, who is an avid community volunteer, have three daughters, Cailin, Payton and Regan, who also worked in the BL lower school during the 2020-2021 academic year.

I am so grateful to Paula and Kyle for their extraordinary generosity and unwavering commitment to our School.  I invite you to click here for more information on the Boldly BL Campaign, and I look forward to sharing additional campaign updates over the next several months.

For now, please join me in celebrating this wonderful moment for our School and our boys.

All the best,
Christopher J. Post
Headmaster
