Teaching At BL:
Ms. McKew's teaching approach involves direct, multisensory instruction which she integrates with movement in order to maximize her students' engagement and absorption of the learning material. But, Ms. McKew knows that relationships are the key to a positive school experience. So, before anything, "I first establish a student-teacher rapport with my boys based on mutual respect and understanding." Bringing a contagious enthusiasm to the classroom each day, Ms. McKew's students are "very invested in their school success. I love their wonderful sense of humor which makes every day a true delight!"

What's More:
Ms. McKew grew up traveling around the country as a part of a military family. When she has time to relax, she unwinds by getting back to traveling, reading or spending time with family and friends. Since all five of her children are now adults, when she's not at BL, she is a tireless volunteer for several nonprofits and causes which she strongly believes in and supports. She is a certified volunteer, mentor, and presenter of the Araminta Freedom Initiative, a summer volunteer of the Beans and Bread program, a small group leader and Eucharistic minister of the Church of the Nativity, a member of the Education Team of the Madieu Williams Foundation/Project Sierra Leone, and a trained advocate and volunteer of the Turn Around summer camp program.
