If "the aim of art is to represent, not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance," then art is a medium that has the potential to change lives, empower students in self-expression, and transform ways of thinking about the world. Art has the capacity to reveal the child as a whole person. Mrs. Mogliazzi believes her job as an educator is to honor the child in that way and give each student the tools they need to discover the unique attributes they can offer that world. She values the lessons that emerge organically within the classroom and believes that if she engages students in processes of kinesthetic and collaborative learning, self- inquiry, problem-solving, and critical thinking, she can impact the "inward significance" of each child.
Mrs. Mogliazzi believes that educators should encourage all types of learners and challenge their students to make connections between their sense of self and ideas. She helps her students acquire skills that transfer beyond the classroom and believes that if she fosters a classroom environment that honors respect and safety, she can build meaningful relationships that will allow her students a genuine joy of learning that will empower them for the rest of their lives.
Mrs. Mogliazzi spends her time outside of BL painting landscapes, traveling, working on community murals with local artists, volunteering, hiking, and leading the college-aged ministry at her church.
Mrs. Mogliazzi also works with children who have been charged as adults in the criminal justice system and is very involved with organizations that seek to fight injustices such as human trafficking. During the summer, she teaches art to incarcerated young men and uses art as an outlet of empowerment and exploration.
Throughout the year, Mrs. Mogliazzi serves as a mentor to the young girls who are incarcerated at the Baltimore County Detention Center. Her goal is to show them they are loved and valuable and aims to equip them with the necessary skills and positive mindset for success in the world beyond.
