Teaching At BL:
For Ms. Smith, a nurturing teaching environment is one that acknowledges the various types of learning styles as a gift to share with the classroom, rather than a burden. Diagnosed with a learning difference at a young age, Ms. Smith uses her experience to help each student identify learning strategies that meet their needs.

"I love getting to know the different personalities and talents of the students and how they are all expressed throughout the Boys' Latin community," she likes to say. It's a sentiment that's seen clearly in all her classrooms.

What's More:
When not at BL, Ms. Smith's heart is out West on her family farm. She enjoys traveling, camping, boating, yoga/meditation, baking and, of course, Western horseback riding. And on a lazy day, you can find her curled up with her dogs and a good book. Her favorite is Catcher in the Rye.
Ms. Smith is a big believer in giving back to the community, and volunteers regularly at both the Baltimore Ronald McDonald House and Blakehurst Retirement Community.

Carolyn has also been a be supporter in the One Love Foundation. The One Love Foundation, the One Love works with young people across the country to raise awareness about the warning signs of abuse and activate communities to work to change the statistics around relationship violence. Carolyn also spends her times off in the summer to travel to college and facilitate One Love workshops.
