"Never pass up an opportunity simply because you are afraid of failure. Failure is an unavoidable stop on the road to success in anything, just ask all the great achievers throughout history that struggled early on. With the right frame of mind and work ethic failure can propel you forward in the long run, even if it sets you back in the short term."

Teaching at BL:
Mr. Welch’s teaching philosophy is simply to “keep things dynamic and engaging.” In both his Honors American Government and European History classes, Mr. Welch prizes critical thinking over the mere memorization of facts. He believes that getting each individual student to engage with the course material in a way that challenges them to step out of their comfort zone is essential to cultivating a life-long love of learning.
One of the main reasons Mr. Welch loves teaching at BL is the collaborative spirit that animates the Upper School. “Every classroom is a unique educational ecosystem with a different mix of student needs, and BL teachers eagerly support each other to help make every learning environment optimal.”
Mr. Welch has a passion for politics, moral philosophy, and lacrosse goaltending -- though not necessarily in that order. When he is not pursuing this odd mix of passions, he likes to watch pretentious prestige dramas and brain-rotting lowbrow comedies on TV.
