Students focus on healthy relationships

During Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, upper school students are educating peers and each other.

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM). In working in partnership with the One Love Foundation, we continue to focus on the need for boys to develop and nurture healthy relationships with mutual respect. This month our One Love Club will be hosting numerous events across campus as we continue our work to educate our young men on the importance of healthy relationships, raising awareness about dating violence, and highlight promising practices.

Below outlines some events that are happening in the upper school.

One Love Yoga Night:  On February 5, we kicked off the month with a yoga night to promote healthy living and wellness. Self-care is essential as it produces positive feelings, boosts confidence, and taking care of you helps you support the people you love.

Class Meeting activities: Wednesday, February 11 and Thursday, February 12, 11th and 12th graders will participate in a discussion around the PSA, Behind the Post. This campaign reminds students and young people that what you see on your friends' feeds isn't always an accurate portrayal of what's happening in a relationship.

Our 9th  and 10th graders will participate in a discussion around the PSA, That's Not Love.  They will also spend time learning and exploring One Love’s Campaign #thatsnotlove and discuss how simple phrases can take on a different meaning in an unhealthy relationship.

Valentine's Day: One Love Club members will be offering Valentine cards to be sent to students at surrounding schools.  In addition to the Valentine, qualities of a healthy relationship and sweet tart candy will also be handed out.

Did you know our upper school has weekly, Trivia Thursday? This month's trivia questions will focus on healthy relationships.

One Love Club members will continue their important work around healthy relationships. The next big event is our One Lake │ One Love Day on Friday, April 12. Stay tuned for more information.
