Andrew Cohen’19 named National Merit scholarship winner
Andrew Cohen ‘19 has been selected as a winner of the National Merit $2500 Scholarship to be used toward the college of his choice. Andrew will be attending the University of Chicago next year. National Merit Scholars are one of the highest academic honors one can achieve. Of the 1.6 million entrance, Andrew was one of the 2,500 award winners chosen from 15,000 (less than 1%) of the 1.6 million finalists.

Spend 5 minutes with Andrew, and you will quickly realize he is more than just a scholar. He is inquisitive, charming, and well-rounded. On campus you will typically find him surrounded by his friends, chatting with a teacher, or engaged in one of his many extracurricular activities.

His academic accomplishments speak for themselves. He will graduate Boys’ Latin having taken 11 AP classes and 13 AP exams, two that he prepared for independently. He started a very successful peer to peer tutoring program this year and faculty are thrilled with the results! While Andrew’s academic performance is impressive, what makes Andrew remarkable is his vast array of interests and activities. Andrew is a leader on the Boys’ Latin award-winning robotics team, competes on the BL It’s Academic Team, is a member of our cross-country squad, and captains our state-ranked Math Team. He recently received a perfect score on the Maryland math competition.

Andrew is headed to the University of Chicago next year and is considering double majoring in economics and molecular engineering.
