Roboquake on Lake

Up next, States!
Hundreds of inventive students from throughout the region descended on the Boys' Latin campus last weekend to put their specially designed LEGO robots to the test as part of the FLL Jr. Expo and FLL State Qualifier competition. It was a day full of collaboration and critical thinking as our teams of 5th through 8th graders tackled the theme "City Shaper." The teams' robots had to navigate, transport, activate, and deliver objects through a series of real-world challenges in a custom mini "city" designed to test the design and performance of each robot.  In addition to the robot game, each team had to design an Innovation Project centered around the prompt, "Find a problem in a building or public space in your community."

Many members of the BL community pitched in to make the Roboquake a success. Over 150 faculty/staff, parents, students, and community volunteers donated their time and talent. And members of our world-ranked Boys' Latin upper-school robotics team, The Lumberjacks, served as emcees, scorekeepers, and judges throughout the daylong event.

All of our robotics teams brought their "A-game," each winning an award, and our middle school Laker team advanced to the State Championships.  A special shout-out goes to our third graders who created posters and robotic prototypes for the FLL Jr. Boomtown Build. See below for a complete list of awards.

Junior Lakers  - 1st place for Innovation
Lumberjacks - 1st place for Robot Design
