DREW TIERNEY '87

Dr. Drew Tierney ’87 says his first recollection of wanting to be a physician was in seventh grade when he was dissecting a frog in Mr. Shriver’s science class. “I have been in practice now for 13 years and have a very rewarding career,” he says. “Some of the surgeries are routine and some are very complex or emergent. They are all challenging and interesting. I am fortunate to do something that I love, and I owe this to my parents and to Boys’ Latin.”

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF ALUMNI RELATIONS

A Laker for Life, An Active Alum by Choice
Our alumni are the envy of other schools. Not only are their collective achievements extraordinary, their commitment to one another and the school is unparalleled. Leading the charge are the more than 2,000 active members of the Alumni Association at Boys' Latin School who each year outpace other schools in alumni giving. The alumni network is such an invaluable asset to our graduates. Our school makes a concerted effort to continuously involve our alumni in virtually all that we do, which is why there's solid alumni representation on our board and within the school community. From sponsored lunches and the annual golf outing to the Bull and Oyster Roast and Homecoming Weekend, we invite alumni throughout the year to return to campus and stay in touch with their BL brothers.

BOYS' LATIN SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

One of the core values we seek to pass on at Boys' Latin is a sense of responsibility for one another and the generations to come.
You see it in our best-in-class peer mentoring programs, and in more symbolic ways like our annual first-day-of-school parade, with the incoming senior class walking in hand-in-hand with the fresh new class of kindergarteners, and our unforgettables senior farewells.

You can also see this commitment in our active and engaged alumni program at BL, and in the way our alumni participate at levels unseen at many of our peer institutions.

GET INVOLVED!

THE BOYS' LATIN ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OFFERS A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR FOR ALUMNI TO RETURN TO CAMPUS AND RENEW OLD FRIENDSHIPS.

The Alumni Association is led by a group of dedicated BL graduates and sponsors many events, including Alumni lunches, the Bull and Oyster Roast, annual Golf Outing, and Homecoming.

ALUMNI BOARD

The BL Alumni Board of Directors oversees the Alumni Association activities. Alumni who want to get more involved with the school are encouraged to consider joining the Alumni Association. The Alumni Association is also developing active chapters outside of Baltimore. An Alumni chapter is an organized group of Boys' Latin Alumni volunteers in a designated geographic region of at least 30 Alumni. Currently, there is an Alumni Chapter in New York City with plans to open other chapters in other areas of the country in the near future.

The Alumni Association has launched a networking program for our young alumni, and we encourage everyone in the BL community to get involved helping mentor our young alumni. The goal is to help our younger Lakers with their future careers. We introduce our younger graduates to the scores of BL mentors collectively on an annual basis and individually on a case-by-case basis.

Board of Visitors

The Board of Visitors is comprised of a distinguished group of alumni, parents, alumni parents and friends of the school. The role of the Board of Visitors is to promote and celebrate the impact that Boys' Latin has had, and continues to have on developing boys into successful men.

While the Board of Visitors does not have a role in governance or fiduciary responsibility, they are a tremendous asset and provide valuable insight and strategy to the school's leadership. Members serve as advocates of the school and assist Boys' Latin in admissions, alumni & parent relations, and donor stewardship. Below is a list of current members:
