Teaching At BL:
Teaching music for Ms. Wilson is a passion, and witnessing the boys growing appreciation for music is her reward. As music is the only subject that naturally incorporates movement, auditory, and visual learning, she leverages all of this to tap into each student's learning preference. She also makes sure that her students understand the diversity in music by creating a world playground in her classroom filled with instruments from around the globe and lesson plans that bring to life the rich sounds of different cultures.

Ms. Wilson also enjoys collaborating with her colleagues so she can interject music into other disciplines, and welcomes the challenge that newer technology brings to music pedagogy. Anything to keep her and her students playing, moving, exploring and creating!

What's More:
Ms. Wilson is a modern Renaissance woman all predicated on her bringing to life one of her favorite quotes, "He who dares to teach must never cease to learn" (Richard Henry Dana). How else would you describe a musician who also lists cooking (and eating), traveling, biking, sailing, kayaking, and high-flying trapeze among her hobbies?

Moreover, she does good things with her eclectic interests. This includes serving as a board director of the Baltimore Children's Choir, cycling 140 miles for three consecutive years to raise money for Moveable Feast, volunteering to support the Accessible Sailing Program for the Downtown Sailing Center, and always being ready for duty as a first mate crew member on the Coast Guard inspected charter SV Pintita.

And that's not all. Ms. Wilson has also developed a partnership with the village of Dagbamete in Ghana, West Africa, traveling there twice to study the music and culture of the Ewe people, helping to fund a school building and secure class supplies for teachers and students, and then hosting her Ewe teacher, Kwasi Dunyo, at BL for a one week artist-in-residence program.

Ms. Wilson and Ray, her long-time companion, live in Hampden with their two cats. She says that if she weren't working at Boys' Latin, she would be circumnavigating the globe in a 40-foot sailboat, stopping to snorkel, dive, and island hop along the way.
