Teaching At BL:
With new technologies emerging every day, it's an exciting time to develop skills in digital arts and visual communication. But all of these innovations can also be daunting.
Which is why Ms. Reid focuses on teaching her students how to craft content that's engaging to them, and audiences they know. As she says, "Students are more invested in the outcome if new media allows them to express themselves and tell meaningful stories."
Ms. Reid insists on giving students authorship and, once they've mastered enough technical skills, it's a matter of teaching them how to balance their technical skills with the creativity required to create authentic and original interpretations of the world around them.
Since moving in 2011 to Highlandtown, home to many Baltimore landmarks, including the Creative Alliance, Matthew's Pizza, and DiPasquale's, Ms. Reid has volunteered to support a wide range of neighborhood activities.
Because one of her life philosophies is to document everything, you'll probably see her behind the camera at BL events as well as some of Baltimore's best events, including the Lantern Parade in Patterson Park and, her personal favorite, The Art Cart Derby, a community-arts, gravity-powered downhill derby for all ages.
When she's not behind a camera, you may find her behind a book. Among her favorites, she counts To Kill a Mockingbird. And when she's not doing either one of these things, she may be either listening to music, or creating her own.
She and her husband have a daughter, Ruby, an older Jack Russell Terrier named Reba and a cool cat named Ted.
