Teaching At BL:
Mrs. Rodriguez is passionate about the study of physics and its role in the way the world operates. "By learning about physics," she says, "one can unlock many of the mysteries of the universe! How awesome is that!" She is also a firm believer that students should be active participants in their own education. With that in mind, she views herself more as a "physics facilitator," rather than a physics teacher. She works hard to design creative lessons that demonstrate the material while truly engaging her students, whether it's catapulting golf balls, designing circuits or calculating the launch velocity of water from a fountain. Utilizing different teaching styles allows her to tailor lessons to accommodate her students' different learning styles.
Mrs. Rodriguez taught at Boys' Latin for nine years before leaving to be a stay-at-home mom when she and her husband went to China to adopt their daughter, Jenny Mei. While preparing for the trip to China, Mrs. Rodriguez learned how to speak Mandarin. She was surprised to find that, although far from fluent, she spoke Mandarin well enough to navigate her way through China. She thoroughly enjoyed her five years at home with her daughter, and was excited to be able to return to Boys' Latin in 2010 when her daughter entered kindergarten. In the fall of 2016, the Rodriguez family returned to China to adopt their son, D.J., who is currently in kindergarten at BL.
Mrs. Rodriguez absolutely loves cats. In fact, she has two: Katie and Teddy. She also has a turtle named “Soup” and a talking Quaker parrot named “Chippy”. She enjoys going to the beach and playing video games with her family.
