Teaching At BL:
Mr. Thomas believes that all students have the potential to achieve their individual goals given the right supportive environment. His teaching styles cater to the diverse student audience, and differ to meet the learning styles, needs, and experience level of each student. "Students are experienced in the tech field and I provide opportunities for them to share their knowledge." Mr. Thomas considers himself to be a facilitator while the students take leadership of their own learning.

Mr. Thomas loves how Boys' Latin students are naturally enthused by the idea of technology. Students use technology in their everyday life, and as such, teaching technology becomes interesting. "I love to see when students apply concepts to solve difficult problems, struggle to derive a solution, create meaningful designs and celebrate their accomplishments based on their efforts."

For Mr. Thomas, a Jamaican national, and his family, Boys' Latin is like a "home away from home." Having emigrated from the Bahamas in 2005 and finding BL a year after their arrival, he and his sons, Theodore '17 and Mattheu '19, "feel accepted, loved and valued."

"The entire faculty and staff are very friendly, caring and thoughtful while the students display respect, gratitude and appreciation for all that I do." Some of the features Mr. Thomas likes the most about BL are the class sizes, the support system for the students that pushes them to their fullest potential, and the student-centered extracurricular activities and sports designed to meet the needs and interests of every student.

What's More:
Mr. Thomas has two boys Theodore '17 and Mattheu' 19. When he isn't volunteering at his church, Mr. Thomas enjoys watching movies that help to keep him connected with his heritage and culture. Together with his family, Mr. Thomas formed the Thomas Foundation, in memory of his parents, to support children from the community in Jamaica where he and his siblings grew up. He supports the school with technology and other resources: "I often gather, repair and recondition retired laptops and send them to meet the dire needs of students there."
